Leaving the MTC & Letter to Friends and Family

Sister Wheat is "really excited, sad and nervous" at the same time to leave the MTC and travel to the mission field in Angeles She leaves behind those that she has grown to love and served with... and realizes that she may never see them again.  She will be also be assigned a new companion when she arrives.  Below is a new Friends and Family Letter that she wrote this past week. Enjoy!

Friends and Family!

I just want all of you to know that I am doing well and I love it here! I only have 4 more days left in the Manila MTC and then I leave on Wednesday morning to go to Angeles! I can hardly wait! There are 4 more people from my group going there also, and some Filipinos too! So, it will be great! We are taking a bus there because it is about 3 hours away! My Tagalog is coming along and is getting better as the days go by! I feel somewhat comfortable with speaking it, but I know that with the Lord’s help, it will come and the spirit will be by my side helping me along!

On Wednesday, we had the opportunity to go out proselyting again! It’s my favorite part of the MTC experience! We went to Cazon City and my companion and I were paired up with an in-field sister training leader. She didn’t have any appointments so, we just went out finding less active members and did some tracking. In the process of looking for a less active, we stopped and talked to this sweet little old lady who was a house servant and had been working at this house since 1964. She invited us in the house she worked at. She was the sweetest lady ever and had the biggest heart. She agreed to hear a message from us. The in-field missionary sat behind us and said, “teach her”. We started off by getting to know her in Tagalog, of course, and then we pulled out a pamphlet and introduced it. We taught her about prayer and told her we are God’s children and that he loves us. We asked her how she felt, and if she believed that, and she said that she did! She went on talking in Tagalog and tears were forming in her eyes I could hardly understand her. We bore our testimonies in Tagalog, not knowing if she understood us or not. The in-field missionary that we were with didn’t say one word but, she bore her testimony at the end and said the prayer. After the prayer, the lady had tears streaming down her face. We all gave her a hug and she accepted for us to visit her again. Before then, I wasn’t really sure if I would feel ready to go out in the field. But after that experience, I know that I am ready and even though my Tagalog isn’t the best.  I know that if I press forward in faith (pananampalataya), I will be blessed and the Spirit will guide me through all I do.

I love being a missionary and if anyone is contemplating going on a mission or not, just do it! It will bless your life in so many ways! It has already blessed mine and I have been out for only a little over a month! I can honestly say, it is the best decision I have ever made! Thank you for all the examples you have been in my life and I pray for you always!

Mahal Kita!

Sister Wheat
